Clouds increase late in the day, rain chances return through the weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – We’re giving you first alert for a few more clouds and chances of rain heading into the weekend. While every day won’t be enough to cancel plans, expect a few showers with more clouds by the end of the week.

TODAY

Partly cloudy skies today will start the day with temperatures in the 30s this morning.

As we move through the day, expect more clouds to appear during the afternoon. Surface high pressures will continue to bring the coldest temperatures to our Northeast today, but will keep us in the 50s.

THIS EVENING

As this evening approaches, clouds are thickening across the region and a few light showers appear possible, especially in this morning’s new data. With clouds present and a rapid disturbance developing offshore, we will see a few showers develop overnight and into Friday morning.

TOMORROW

A complex forecast that sandwiches our region between high pressure and developing coastal disturbances will keep our region in an interesting weather pattern for Friday and Saturday. We will hold on to some showers early in the day Friday before our rain chances become isolated.

There is enough lingering humidity Friday and Saturday to support a few isolated showers each day with more clouds than on a typical day.

Friday’s highs will still be influenced by cooler weather to our northeast, as well as clouds and a few showers. We’ll keep things cooler with mostly cloudy skies on Friday.

THIS WEEKEND

An onshore flow will arrive over the weekend, warming our temperatures on Saturday and Sunday despite the chance of rain remaining in the forecast. The old coastal system will finally begin to move completely away from the Grand Strand, leaving only an isolated shower possible throughout the day. Most places are expected to be warm with a rain chance of just 20%.

As we head into Sunday, the most recent data continues to support a cold front bringing our best chance for rain next week. A cold front will move west to east across the Carolinas on Sunday. With lots of humidity and warmer temperatures, expect showers with some rumbles of thunder. This front appears to pass quickly, but will bring gusty winds as it passes. The exact timing of this front will need to be determined, but the latest data favors the idea of a Sunday afternoon. We will adjust this as we continue to receive the latest data.
