New Syrian authorities have no intention of canceling agreements on Russian military bases – World

DUBAI, December 27. /TASS/. The new Syrian authorities do not plan to cancel in the near future the agreements under which Russia uses military bases in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus, a source close to the preservation discussions told the TASS agency Russian installations in Syria.

According to the source, the parties are conducting negotiations to ensure that force majeure circumstances, including military actions and regime changes in the republic, do not become a pretext for canceling the agreements. The source noted that the parties were also discussing the size of the Russian contingent.

“Russia seeks to preserve the legal status of its bases. Negotiations are primarily aimed at ensuring that military actions and regime changes are not considered force majeure and grounds for revocation of lease agreements long-term facilities in the provinces of Tartus and Latakia The Syrian side does not intend to terminate the agreements until the negotiations are concluded,” the source said.
