Uttar Pradesh: Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday (December 5) dissolved the entire unit of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in Uttar Pradesh, along with the district and block units, with immediate effect. The move is seen as part of the party’s plan to restructure its Uttar Pradesh unit and prepare for the state’s next assembly elections in 2027.

According to an official statement, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal confirmed the decision saying, “The Congress president has approved the proposal to dissolve the entire state unit of the PCC, along with the district presidents and block congress committees of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. with immediate effect. »

All committees, sub-committees and district units of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee have been dissolved with immediate effect, following which all former functionaries, executive committee members and officers with special responsibilities will not occupy no longer these positions.

The Congress’s performance in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2022 Assembly elections has been disappointing. The party therefore has to re-establish itself in Uttar Pradesh, which was once a Congress stronghold.

Today, under the leadership of Kharge, the grand old party is trying to attract young people and local leaders into its fold. The party leadership believes that it is necessary to modify the old committee and inject new energy into it.

The objective of the organizational change is to strengthen the Congress at the regional level

As many as 403 Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats will play an important role in the upcoming elections. The objective of the organizational change is to strengthen the Congress at the regional level.

This move by Congress will have more impact on Assembly seats in the state where the party currently has less influence. New committees could be formed to create a balance between young and experienced party leaders in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress to reestablish its organization in rural and urban areas of UP

The Congress will now reestablish its organization in rural and urban areas of the state keeping caste equations in mind. Earlier on November 6, Kharge had dissolved the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), along with its district and block units, in a major restructuring.

The decision, effective immediately, was aimed at revamping the party structure in the Congress-ruled hill state, which has not seen a major reorganization since the establishment of the party government.
