MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVY) – Governor Kay Ivey has awarded $2.6 million to help Alabamians who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The funds were awarded to 12 municipalities or non-profit organizations, including a Wiregrass organization.

The Southeast Alabama Homeless Coalition (SEACH) received $375,000. In collaboration with Ruth House, SEACH will provide street outreach, homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing services to residents of Coffee, Dale, Henry, Houston and Geneva counties.

Other organizations that received the grant include The Marshall County Home Place Inc., the YMCA of Central Alabama and the Montgomery Area Domestic Violence Program.

“Emergency Solutions Grants are in many cases the last piece of rope from which those facing difficult situations can get to safety and rebuild their lives,” said Governor Ivey. “I commend local governments and regional organizations for participating in a program that truly helps people at a critical time in their lives. »

Funds are administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
