A Reddit user offered some practical suggestions for those who want to start making money without having a formal degree. The post was supposed to be aimed at tech enthusiasts, but has now sparked an online debate.

As the user claims, it is possible to earn Rs 15 lakh per year even if you didn’t go to IIT or have a BTech degree.

A post from Btechtards on Reddit created a buzz on the internet, sparking mixed reactions. Some users agreed with the Redditor while others highlighted the importance of a formal degree for job stability.

As suggested by the user, people should explore the Y Combinator (YC) directory where they will come across many opportunities that match their personal interests. For those who don’t know, YC is an American technology startup accelerator that funds many early-stage companies.

“Go to the YC directory, filter by open source, find a project you find interesting, start interacting with the community and developers, start contributing by answering other members’ queries, fixing bugs or any other way to find your help,” the Redditor wrote.

The user further insisted that a person needs to continue this task for a few months to start earning money. “Stay there for a few months, you’ll start getting paid, $1500 is nothing from a company perspective, the world is literally set up in a way that you create value so someone can well earn a living,” the message added.

At the end of the post, the Redditor emphasized, “The only thing that matters is if you care about something.” It’s quite easy to detect whether you’re interested in a project or not, so don’t think you could be faking it before you’ve done it.”

The post went viral accumulating hundreds of upvotes on the platform. Another Reddit user supported the concept, saying, “People think you have to be in a good IIT or something. Go improve your profile and companies will come after you.” Some other users also found the idea “pretty interesting.”

However, many users have expressed doubts about this idea, emphasizing the importance of a formal degree for career advancement. One user suggested, “You need a degree from a reputed university to survive in India.”

Echoing the same sentiment, another comment read: “Good universities accelerate your chances of getting good companies with good packages. So the starting point is that someone could work for 10 years and receive the same package. »
