Thousands of people came to watch the Weston-super-Mare carnival spectacle.

Friday night’s event was the largest historic carnival ever, with almost 100 carts lighting up the streets of the Somerset seaside town.

He follows a call from the organizers for the community to support the event, which has been experiencing financial difficulties in recent years.

For the first time it hosted a carnival village and punters had to enter through security, where they were asked to donate at least £2 to secure the future of the carnival.

Gremlins Carnival Club, based in Bridgwater, were crowned winners after judges chose their Beatlemania-themed cart as their favorite.

BBC Radio Bristol’s Adam Crowther, reporting from Weston Carnival, said:

“The city was filled with people streaming into the streets. Families set up camp chairs at the side of the road to make the most of watching the bright, colorful carts that lit up the procession route.”

He said crowds gathered along Alfred Street, the Boulevard, along the Italian Gardens and the famous waterfront promenade.

“More than 90 carts loaded with artists, dancers and entertainers entertained thousands upon thousands of people who came to witness the most spectacular event the city has hosted.”
