Drag queen Tayce announced as second star to take part in Strictly Christmas Special – after comedian Josh Widdicombe confirmed

Tayce has been announced as the second celebrity to appear in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

The drag queen, 30, is one of six famous faces who will hit the dancefloor for the festive edition of the BBC competition.

It comes after comedian Josh Widdicombe was revealed as the first star to take part on Monday.

Making the announcements on Strictly: It Takes Two this week, it was revealed that Josh would be partnered with professional dancer Karen Hauer, while Tayce would be partnered with Kai Widdrington.

Welsh-born Tayce rose to fame as a finalist on the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Speaking about joining the festive Strictly line-up, Tayce exclaimed: “I can’t wait to go sledding on the Strictly Ballroom floor.

“My partner and I are going to dance for our lives!” Seriously, it’s an incredible honor to be the first Drag performer to take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

A source close to Tayce revealed to MailOnline on Tuesday: ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race star Tayce will be appearing in the Christmas special this year, and she’s about to make history. This is the first time they have featured a drag queen. This is a big moment for her and for the drag community.

“The BBC had been in talks with various drag performers in the past, but Tayce landed the spot, instantly impressing the producers.”

It comes after Josh joked on Monday that he might be “about to ruin” Christmas for everyone with his participation, while Tayce admitted she was honored to be the first drag artist to hit the Strictly dance floor.

Speaking about Monday’s announcement, Josh said: “I’m absolutely terrified this will end in humiliation and I’m afraid I’ll be so bad that I’ll ruin Christmas for the nation.” Why did I do this?

Josh is currently best known for his popular parenting podcast, Parenting Hell, which he hosts alongside fellow comedian Rob Beckett.

Josh and Rob release episodes twice a week and usually one of the episodes will include a famous relative they are interviewing for the show.

The pre-recorded episode – airing on December 25 – will see each of the couples perform a festive-themed routine in the hope of impressing judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas, as well as the audience at the voting studio.

The remaining Christmas line-up will be announced on Strictly: It Takes Two in due course.

Last year, celebrities including TV presenter Dan Snow, Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan and BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent all competed for the festive version of the Glitterball Trophy.

News of Josh’s participation in Strictly comes weeks after it was revealed he had also signed up to Celebrity Gogglebox.

Josh sat down with his friend and fellow comedian Stephen Merchant, who co-wrote The Office with Ricky Gervais.

Stephen, 49, who has since starred in blockbusters Logan and Jojo Rabit alongside Scarlett Johansson, said he wasn’t usually very talkative in front of the TV but was excited to sit down with Josh .

He said: “I usually don’t allow talking when the TV is on, because I know how hard you have to work to make shows, so I try to give them my full attention.

“But I’m happy to break my own rule for Stand Up to Cancer and join the Gogglebox special this year with my pal Josh Widdicombe.”

Josh, who is a regular face on the stand-up circuit and has performed on a number of panels, said: “He does a fantastic job, raising money for life-saving research, and it’s a privilege to ‘be involved.

“Stand Up to Cancer is an incredible cause, which is why I’m honored to be a part of it. I love Stephen and I especially enjoy working with him when we’re sitting so I don’t look like a hobbit next to him.

The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day.
