Ottawa spends $38 million to expand Internet in Manitoba • iPhone blog in Canada

The federal government has once again announced additional spending to expand high-speed Internet to rural areas.

This time, the federal government is investing more than $38 million to provide high-speed Internet access to 3,611 homes in 14 rural and remote communities in Manitoba, including 3,135 Indigenous homes. Funding comes from $3.2 billion Universal Broadband Fund.

The aim of these projects is to improve connectivity, making it easier for people to access education, healthcare and online resources. Some rural areas have terrible internet access and lack high-speed connectivity.

“Every community in Canada deserves access to high-speed Internet. This announcement is another step our government is taking to fulfill its commitment to ensuring all Manitobans have access, no matter where they live,” said Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, Minister responsible for Prairie Economic Development Canada and responsible minister of Canada. Ottawa wants 98% of Canadian homes to have access to high-speed internet by 2026, with a plan to connect everyone in the country by 2030.
