The Real Clark Griswold: Man Transforms Lawn into “Christmas Vacation” Decor

SMITHTOWN, NEW YORK– Who could forget Clark Griswold’s fleeting joy when his Christmas lights came on, illuminating the neighborhood?

A Long Island homeowner is channeling that enthusiasm and paying homage to the classic film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

He says he hopes his recreation in Smithtown, on New York’s Long Island, will bring joy to others this holiday season.

A walk to the Orsini family home in Smithtown and nostalgia rings louder than Christmas music.

Owner Jason Orsini is not only obsessed with Clark Griswold, he might actually be Clark Griswold.

“Until my kids come out and say, ‘Dad, I don’t want it anymore… that’s when I’ll stop,'” Orsini said.

“I fell off a roof. I broke my toe. I got sick. I kept going,” Orsini said.

Because after all, it’s just not easy to string together 25,000 twinkling lights.

Orsini creates a very realistic model of the film, right down to a mannequin Clark Griswold swinging and screaming for his life from the edge of the roof after a lighting installation incident.

“They were going to call the Smithtown Fire Department if I wasn’t outside because they thought someone was falling off the roof,” Orsini said.

Orsini said his extravagant display is more than just a show.

It’s an experience with 20 different models including Cousin Eddie of course.

The attention to detail is extraordinary, right down to the exact license plate of the Griswold family station wagon.

“You can’t have a ‘Christmas Vacation’ movie theme and presentation without Cousin Eddie’s camper van”

But somehow, just like Clark in the films, everything works out for Orsini. Hundreds of people are now showing up.

Orsini is simply asking people to bring toys that he, in true Griswold spirit, donated to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, all because of a movie he watched over and over when He was punished as a child.

“Emotionally, it made me a better person and more spirited for Christmas,” Orsini said.
